“Not since the launch of the Australian Pro Tour (of which Watkins was a co-creator) has there been such a monumental event in Australia”. At least that was the call from the riders, following the Monster Energy Obrien 1st Anniversary of Daniel Watkins Deja Vu Rail Jam. A 9 metre long wall ride, 12 metre flat bar and 8 metre transfer rail set the stage for an explosive 3 hour rail jam. Watkins set the pace, being the first rider to make the transfer gap. Ike and Weatherall soon followed. O’Shea attempted to mix it at the top of the transfers but almost sent himself for an early rest coming up short on the rail. None however, created more of a heart starter than Scotty Broome, who almost high sided the banked rail, which would have taken him 6 metres down to flat concrete. Australian Cable Pro Tour Champion Matty Wilkings stepped up with a tail press on the wall ride which left just 5 inches of his board on the rail and a front board 270 off the banked rail. Kiwi Scotty Green almost stole the show in his first major appearance in the Aussie Pro League, spinning large and solid off everything. But it was Dean Smith who claimed the $3k cash when he went 270 onto the wall ride frontside 90 out, on his first attempt in the finals, then backed it up with a switch 180 to 50-50-to-boardslide, 270 out, off the banked rail. The Monster Energy Obrien 1st Anniversary of Daniel Watkins Deja Vu will be seen on Fuel TV’s Weekly Update with Boost Mobile, the new Aussie wakeboarding program on Fuel TV “The Wake Show”, Wakelife TV on free-to-air channel 31, in Alliance Magazine and in Boarder Magazine’s December issue.
